The United States Government and its Oppressive Policies
For centuries, the United States has been about
equality, justice and freedom. These guiding principles are foremost observed
and practiced by the US Federal Government. During the past year, however, the
American government has shown signs of deterioration in terms of principles and
values. What used to be an institution that safeguards the American values is
now but an entity that thrives on oppression, discrimination, and power. Such
remorseful acts are evident in no other than the various policies of the
government.
One of the most current
oppressive policies of the government is its immigration policies. Early this
year, US President Donald Trump passed an executive order that sought to limit
the immigration of foreigners in the country. Such policies target immigrants
and refugees from countries such as Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Yemen,
and Sudan (Shear 1). The core principle of this policy is that immigrants are a
threat to national security, social services, and job opportunities. A closer
examination of this policy will reveal that order is both oppressive and at the
same unfounded and extremely misguided.
Another repressive and abusive
act of the Federal Government comes in the form of invasion of privacy. Various
reports show that different government agencies such as the National Security
Agency and the Federal Bureau of Investigation intrude on the private
communication of innocent people by amassing a large database of what they deem
as “suspicious activities”. What is even alarming to point out is that these
agencies catalog such activities using vague standards (LA Times).
There are countless other activities that
policies that show how the US government has now abandoned its ideals. Sadly,
countless American citizens tolerate and even justify such acts.

As an adult I have come to realize that is not quite truth. Most people are out to get what they can get as quick as possible, and if they must hurt another individual to get it; so be it. That's sad. If you are considered different then you are treated different. When you look at the immigration laws and acts put in place to some extent they are discriminatory. Its shown in these policies that our president is ignorant. There needs to be a coming together not separation. The US Government is in sad shape!
